First Saturday in December

In the small group of drag race competitors in the Los Angeles area, the first Saturday in December has been designated as recognition day for local drag racers. Additionally, we are to acknowledge those who came before us and the accomplishments made.

The group this year was far in excess of a hundred current and semi-retired drag racers, many of the semi-retired with new cars in the works.

Charles Waggoner- Shake City Express- races in two classes, Super Gas & Super Comp. Of record, Charlie had been the most successful sportsman competitor in 2010 with the last win in Vegas grossing over 6K. In addition to this, he won numerous events through 2010. I won't put his business in the street referencing how much he won, but I will say, the sport has treated him well. Recognizing, as Charlie says, "you can't win if you leave the race car in the garage."

We also paid homage to Eddie Flournoy, upon whom the sun set on October 18, 2010. Until his last days, at the age of 74, Eddie was still building race cars engines in Los Angeles. We recognized him as the one to go to for information on building engines to compete in Top Fuel.

Others mentioned on this Saturday in December was Machine Gun Kelly, any nearly 30 others from the "neighborhood" that excelled in this sport. Of which I will dive detains in future posts.
